What Is Yoga
from: Stan MorseThe Sanskrit word 'Yoga' has two meaning, because it is derived
from two roots - one is 'yujir yoge' and other is 'yuj
samadhou'. A good, regular yoga practice will go far in
relieving the stress and tension that sometimes cause mild back
pain, and in fact, studies have shown that yoga is the number
one most effective exercise for relieving back pain. There are
many types of yoga, some with more emphasis on the physical part
of the practice and some with a more spiritual approach,
some that will make you sweat and some where you'd spend half a
class holding the same posture.
Back to Chair Yoga: It goes by a variety of different names and
is sometimes mixed with other forms of exercise, within the same
class, such as: weight resistance, low-impact aerobics, Chair
Pilates, and Tai Chi. So, the one reason to try a Yoga class is
because you have found a low-impact exercise solution. Are you
tired all the time and feel the need to rest, but you know you
should get some exercise? How can you do both? The answer is to
start regularly attending Restorative Yoga classes, and reap the
rewards of healing without a tremendous amount of effort.
So, how do you take the soothing effects of your Yoga practice
and apply them to the rest of your day? So yoga clothes should
be functional, comfortable, and give you the freedom to totally
enjoy your practice. Here are some of the things that you should
look for in yoga clothing so that they work well for you and
make you feel good about yourself and your practice.
There are also Yoga classes where you can feel the pain, heat,
and suffer. Maybe the masses have been "brain washed" into
thinking that you have to feel the pain, suffer, starve, and
have a near death experience, to lose weight. Since the study
was released, a constant barrage of skeptics have pointed out
flaws in the research that range from self-reported results to
missing many other factors that may lead people to both practice
yoga and have reduced weight.
Until all the studies are in, it would be safe to say that
adding Yoga practice to your weekly routine, and eating wisely,
will contribute to weight control or weight loss. As for
skeptics who "point the finger" at each other - "He that is
without sin among you, let him cast the first stone..." It might
be best if we all practice a little more mindfulness, and loving
kindness, before we decide to criticize things we don't
understand. Ashtanga Yoga - this is the type of Yoga that I
practice on a regular basis and means "eight limbs" in Sanskrit.
Iyengar Yoga - This type of Yoga is based on teachings by B.
There is a type of Yoga for everyone, and some people want a
little more spiritual flavor than others. Another big hurdle is
overcoming the goal-oriented, "Type A" personality approach to
yoga; the attitude that the body must conform to perfection and
each pose must be the textbook ideal.
Chair Yoga classes offer a social activity that helps to
stimulate the mind and body in a positive way. Furthermore,
practitioners of yoga speak of a unification of the body, mind
and spirit achieved through the practice of yoga exercises and
breathing techniques. Greater concentration - The breathing and
inward focus that is a main component of any yoga practice can
help your child learn to focus his mind more effectively.
You have to cultivate a positive relationship with your mind,
through practicing Yoga postures (asanas), breathing techniques
(pranayama), and meditation. If you find the right Yoga teacher,
you will learn controlled breathing (pranayama), stage-by-stage
relaxation, and meditation. Lastly, all participants in Chair
Yoga classes learn to relax and quiet the mind, through breath
awareness, meditation, stage-by-stage relaxation, a combination,
or another method.
